Kids' first band workshops in Woking
They've had the lessons. Now they're in a band.
For children who already play guitar, bass, drums or sing, and have nobody to play with. Every Saturday: an hour of coaching on their instrument, an hour in a band, and a real gig at a Woking venue when the term ends.

The honest bit, first
Is this for Them?
A band only works when everyone can hold their part, so there is a bar. It's about what they can do, not what grade they've got.
1
They can play a full song
Start to finish on their instrument without stopping. It doesn't need to be tidy or fast.
2
They'll practise between sessions
We send the parts out in advance. Ten minutes most days is what makes a term work.
3
They want to play with other people
Keeping time with eachother is the hard part, and the only place to learn it is in a room together!
Not there yet?
Then a band isn't the right setting just yet, and we'd rather say so now than have them spend a term feeling behind.
Private lessons with one of our tutors come first. The tutor gets the basics in place and tells you when they're ready for a band. Tell us about them on the taster form and we'll be in touch about lessons.

Saturdays
Which group would they be in?
Three Saturday groups, roughly by age and by how far along they are.
Morning
Ages 7-11
Time
10:00–12:00
Level
Beginner – Adv. Beginner
Our youngest band. They can play a simple song and are ready to try it with other people. Short songs, quick wins, and a lot of laughter.
Lunchtime
Ages 10-14
Time
12:30–14:30
Level
Adv. Beginner – Intermediate
For players with a year or two behind them, whether that's lessons, school music or a lot of time in their bedroom. The pace assumes they can already play what they mean to.
Afternoon
Ages 13-17
Time
15:00–17:00
Level
Intermediate
Teenagers who can hold a part and want to be in an actual band rather than a lesson. Harder material, more of the term on the set, and a gig they take seriously.
Looking for something else?
Wednesday evenings are for confident teenagers 13 and up. Ask us about them on WhatsApp. And the adult workshops run on evenings, 18+ only, with no children in the room.
A saturday at JAMM
What actually happens?
Two hours, split in half. Turn up, play, meet people, go home buzzing.
1
Drop off
Bring them to the studio and head off. It's a drop-off session: they settle faster without an audience, and it keeps the building secure.
2
Instrument
A small group on their instrument with a specialist tutor. Songs, technique, a bit of theory. Quick breather in the middle.
3
Band workshop
Everyone together, playing the song as a band, coached by all the tutors at once. This is the part they talk about.
4
Pick up
Back at the door two hours later. Expect to hear about it the whole way home.
The bit nobody else does
Every term ends on a real stage
Over the term they learn their parts, rehearse them with the band, and then play a live set at a proper Woking music venue, with a soundcheck, a setlist and their name on it. Friends and family in the crowd.
Not a school hall. A stage, a PA and a sound engineer.

From the parents
Don't take our word for it
"I simply had to write a review after picking my daughter up from JAMM this week. She was absolutely buzzing and could not wait to tell me what she had achieved. I've noticed a significant and positive change in her mental health, self confidence and self belief. She loves going to JAMM and never misses a session."
Julia
Parent, Saturday group
"Everyone at JAMM is simply awesome — passionate in their own areas as well as about teaching children. My son was a bit nervous to start with, but they absolutely reach down to his level and worked with us to help him settle. Now he wants to learn drums and piano as well as sing."

Common Questions
Good enough to play a song through on their instrument, and keen to practise between sessions. There's no grade requirement. If you're not sure, book the taster: it's how we both find out, and a tutor will tell you straight.
Then we'd usually start with a few private lessons with one of our tutors, so they arrive knowing the basics. Some children pick it up quickly, and if that's them, the tutor will say so and they can join a band sooner. Tell us about them on the form and we'll work out the right start
Not for the session: guitars, basses and drum kits are all here. But they'll need one at home, because practice between sessions is what makes a term stick. Ask us before you buy. There's a lot of poor kit sold to beginners, and a decent option at most budgets if you know where to look.
Very common, and the band format helps more than you'd expect. Nobody's on their own, and nobody performs at anyone until they're ready. The gig is the goal, not the entry requirement.
No, it's a drop-off session. Bring them in, head off, come back two hours later. Kids settle much faster without an audience, and keeping the studio to students and staff is part of how we keep it secure.
They join a normal Saturday session with the group that fits them. It's how we check the fit on both sides. If it works for everyone, we'll invite you to enrol.
You only pay for the sessions that are left. Joining in week four costs you four weeks less.
No. It's a rolling monthly Direct Debit and you can stop it whenever you need to — just give us plenty of notice so we can offer the place on. It works out the same over a year as paying termly; it just spreads the cost and holds your spot automatically.
